Griffins win PAC opener

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Sophomore Chris Corkery
(Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) drove in two runs and the
Gwynedd-Mercy bullpen allowed just two hits in three innings of
relief to help lift Gwynedd-Mercy to its first Pennsylvania Athletic
Conference win in a 7-4 defeat of Eastern Friday afternoon.
Corkery had an RBI double in the second and a RBI
single in the third as the Griffins (8-6, 1-0 PAC) got out to a
5-0 lead after three.
After Eastern cut the lead to 7-4 with one out in
the seventh, the tandem of freshman Pat Rider (Lansdale,
Pa./LaSalle) and sophomores Kyle Reynolds (Darby, Pa./Cardinal
O'Hara), and Lee McInerney (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic)
combined to yield just three baserunners the rest of the way. McInerney
pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season.
Junior Anthony Capella (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman
Catholic) added three hits while senior Troy Peiffer (Royersford,
Pa./Spring-Ford) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Mike Young had two hits and an RBI for the Eagles
(3-9, 0-1 PAC).
The two teams are back at it tomorrow in a doubleheader
at Eastern starting at noon.
