GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. - Freshman Ken Bengtson (Jamison, Pa./C.B. East) picked up the 2006 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and five Griffins earned all-conference honors as the season-ending awards were announced.

Bengtson becomes first Griffin to win the league's top newcomer award as the shortstop batted .323 with 35 runs, 19 walks, 17 RBI's, and 14 stolen bases in 43 games

Senior third baseman Troy Peiffer (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) and junior pitcher Matt Daley (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) were named First-Team All-PAC while junior Josh Thomas (Severn, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) and sophomore Mark Mattes (Doylestown, Pa./C.B. East) garnered spots on the second-team.

Junior Anthony Capella (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) and sophomore Chris Corkery (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) garnered a spot on the honorable mention list.

A second-team selection a year ago, Peiffer this season led the team in batting, RBI's, walks, slugging and on-base percentage and was ranked in the league in several offensive categories. Against Arcadia on May 6th in the PAC Tournament, Peiffer recorded his 200th collegiate hit.

Daley and Thomas were a potent 1-2 punch for the Griffins this season as the duo combined to go 14-3 on the year. Daley made school history on March 25th pitching the Griffins' first no-hitter in the eight-year history of the program. Thomas followed suit a month later and threw the second no-hitter on April 29th.

Daley posted 2.29 ERA in 10 starts going 6-2 while working 63 innings, striking out 43 and walking 29. Thomas went 8-1 in nine starts with a 2.78 ERA going 57 innings with 23 strikeouts and just 11 walks.

Mattes enjoyed his first season as a Griffin after transferring from Penn State-Abington as the second baseman hit .390 with a team-leading 59 hits and 18 stolen bases.

Capella set a single-season record with seven triples as he led the team in extra base hits while Corkery's 35 RBI's were the second-most on the squad.

Junior pitcher Joe Harris (Norristown, Pa./Kennedy-Kenrick) was named to the All-PAC Sportsmanship Team.
