BOYERTOWN, PA. - Alvernia knocked off Gwynedd-Mercy,
8-4, to eliminate the Griffins out of the PAC Tournament and capture
the 2005 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championship at Bear Stadium
in Boyertown.

The Crusaders' Anthony Recker hit two home runs,
the second a two-run shot as part of a three-run eighth, as the
teams combined for 24 hits and 20 men left on base.
Junior Anthony Dabrowski (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman
Catholic) tied the contest at 2-2 in the top of the sixth as his
RBI double scored Ryan McMahon (Upper Darby, Pa./Monsignor
Bonner).
But Alvernia took the lead for good in the bottom
of the inning as Edwin Tavarez delivered a two-run single to make
it a 4-2 contest.
GMC starter Matt Daley (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman
Catholic) allowed five runs on 10 hits through 6.2 innings of work.
Freshman Kyle Reynolds (Darby, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) got Daley
out of a jam on a groundout in the seventh with runners on.
Junior Troy Peiffer (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford)
tried to rally the team in the ninth with an RBI double.
McMahon, and seniors John Drozdowski (Philadelphia,
Pa./Roman Catholic), Bob Drozdowski (Philadelphia,
Pa./Roman Catholic), along with Anthony Capella (Philadelphia,
Pa./Roman Catholic) each had two hits.
The Griffins end the season with a record of 24-18.
The Crusaders improve to 35-4 and knock out Gwynedd-Mercy from the
PAC Tournament for the second year in a row.
