2008 Outlook

Not resting on the laurels of 2007 in which the team made the conference tournament for the first time in seven years, the 2008 edition of the Gwynedd-Mercy Field Hockey Team is hungry for more and second-year head coach
Laura-Ann Lane feels the team is ready for the next step.

Questions are abound with 10 newcomers to the squad, but the leadership of the upperclassmen will be vital to the team’s success. Co-captain Victoria Geppert, the top returning scorer, will spearhead the offense. Liz Walton, Rebecka Edmonds, Shawna Brady, Kayla Farrow, Tina Kane, Dottie O’Neill, and Christine Hammitt will be looked to contribute.

“Our recruiting class has meshed quite well with our returners. They are a strong group of athletes and they arrived on campus ready to make a difference in our program from their first day,” says Coach Lane.

In the midfield, senior Nicole Dowling returns and will be joined by junior transfer Olivia Wilson, and freshman Casey Dellostretto. On defense, senior co-captain Erin Reedy will be relied on to anchor the backline. Sophomore Kristi Mackin and
Kristin Morris return while rookies Alaina Snyder and Gabrielle Halteman look to add into the mix. Junior Ashley McGinty and sophomore Trisha Timony will battle for the starting nod in goal.

“We have spent time on the field and in the classroom to prepare for this season. Every player had a part in defining our mission and goals for 2008 and they are looking forward to doing what it takes to make them happen. We are really
looking forward to what 2008 holds for the Gwynedd-Mercy College Field Hockey Program.”
