CROSS COUNTRY
2007 Outlook

2006 was a breakout year for both Gwynedd-Mercy College Women’s and Men’s Cross-Country Teams. At the 2006 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championships the Men and Women Teams both walked away with team trophies for the first time in school history. These two awards along with the six All-Conference awards and Coach of the Year award made 2006 the most successful cross-country season in school history and have the Griffins setting their sights high in 2007.

For the women’s squad, the team returns key runners from last year including captains Lisa Smedley, and Alycia Tranchitella who were both first team All-Conference selections in 2006. Those two along with senior Katie Mehaffey, junior Christine Harrison and sophomores Jackie Calamia and Rachael Wooldridge look to build upon their Invitational win at the GMC invite, and their second place finishes at the Carbrini College Invitational and the PAC Championships. They will be joined by several newcomers to the team including; sophomore Victoria English, and freshmen Courtney Burwell, Ellen Campbell, Lauren Clark and Julie Glendinning.

For the men’s squad sophomore captains R.J. Every, Dan Geary and Jason Robustelli lead the way. These three will be joined by a large recruiting class that includes sophomores Derek Lockhart, Mike Pflueger and freshmen Jim Casey, Samuel Cavanagh, Tom Dolan, Brian Eichler, Sean Monaghan, Ralph Riccardi, Kevin Stackhouse, and John Watts. Our captains will lead a very young men’s team that look to improve upon the program’s all-time best second place finish at the PAC Championships.

With a record number of team members this year, both the Gwynedd-Mercy Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country Teams have the speed and the depth to continue their steady improvement at the PAC Championships and at the NCAA Regional Championships.
