Head Coach Mike Dager
Griffin Head Track & Field Coach Mike Dager takes over the cross country program at the start of the 2009 season. Working with primarily the distance runners during the indoor and outdoor season, Dager will begin directing the year-round development of mid-distance and distance runners in his new role as Head Coach of Cross Country and Track & Field. For the past two years Dager has worked to build the Track & Field program from a group of seven to a roster of nearly fifty student-athletes. During the 2008-09 Track & Field season the Griffins experienced great success on the regional level and began to make their mark nationally. Twenty-two athletes earned Mason-Dixon All Conference honors while twenty athletes qualified for either the indoor or outdoor ECAC Championships. At the 2009 NCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field Championships freshman Dan Dunkleberger (Philadelphia, PA / Father Judge) finished 7th overall in the 400m dash becoming the first All-American in program history. No stranger to cross country, Dager coached the sport for nine years before arriving in the Gwynedd Valley. From 1998-2000 Dager worked as the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach at Elizabethtown College before taking over the women’s program in 2001. In 2004 the Etown women captured the first conference (MAC) title in program history. Two weeks later the women finished third at the Regional Championship qualifying them for the NCAA DIII National Championship where they finished 19th. During Dager’s six years at Elizabethtown the women posted four top-ten Regional finishes, while seven different athletes earned All-Regional honors. In addition to the 2004 team – the 2006 team also qualified for Nationals finishing 31st. “I am excited to have been named the new cross country coach and look forward to continuing to build the program. Coach Werner worked very hard to establish a well respected program over the past five years. It is my goal to continue guiding this program as Mike Werner has – forward.” |
