Assistant Coaches
Assistant Coach Ben Serfass Ben Serfass joins the Gwynedd-Mercy College cross country staff for his first year. No stranger to Gwynedd-Mercy athletics, Serfass is a member of the Track & Field coaching staff working primarily with the sprinters. During the 2009 Outdoor Track & Field season Serfass guided the sprint crew to incredible success on the regional level and began to make his mark nationally. Two relay teams captured All-ECAC honors as the women’s 4x100m team finished 7th overall, just missing the NCAA DIII National provisional qualifying mark. The men’s 4x400m relay team finished 5th at ECACs and were one of only two teams in the Mideast Region to break the 3:20.00 mark. Serfass worked directly with Gwynedd-Mercy’s first Track & Field All-American (Dan Dunkleberger) as the freshman finished 7th overall in the 400m dash (47.95). Before arriving at Gwynedd-Mercy Serfass was a volunteer assistant cross country coach at Keystone College. While completing his graduate degree in Athletic Administration at Temple University Serfass was assigned an internship with Villanova University. At Villanova Serfass worked with the Track & Field program – serving as a meet director for the Pyrah Invitational and a coordinator of the Big East Outdoor Championships. Coach Serfass is a USATF Level I certified coach. “During the track season Ben developed an excellent rapport with athletes in every event group. Ben is one of the best young coaches in the Region; he will be a great addition to the cross country coaching staff,” comments Coach Dager
Assistant Coach Erin Fisher Erin Fisher joins the cross country staff for her first season. During the 2009 Outdoor Track & Field season Fisher volunteered with the Griffins and worked primarily with the women’s distance runners. Fisher is a 2008 graduate of Elizabethtown College where she was one of the most successful distance runners in program history. A two time All-American (XC & 10,000m) and eight time MAC Conference Champion, Fisher has experience competing at the sports highest level. In addition to athletics Fisher was an excellent student as a double-major (Biology & Mathematics) and active in service activities. As a result of her well-rounded experience Fisher was nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award and was named a finalist. Fisher graduated with personal bests of 17:20.60 and 36:00.52 for 5000m and 10,000m respectively. Dager says of Fisher, “Erin was one of the hardest working athletes in Division III distance running. As a senior in high school she finished 159th at the PIAA State Championships. Four years later she was the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Champion. There is only one way to make that transition – outworking everyone.”
