2008 Outlook
After a 2007 season that included a conference champion, GMC’s first NCAA Division III All-Region runner and GMC’s first two NCAA Division III All–Academic Team award winners, the 2008 Griffins are setting their sights even higher. The women’s squad returns many key runners from last year, including Alycia Tranchitella, the 2007 women’s conference champion and first All-Region runner in school history. Joining Alycia will be senior Christine Harrison and juniors Jackie Calamia, Rachael Wooldridge and sophomore Julie Glenndining, all looking to build upon their team win at the Dukes Invitational, their second place finish at the GMC Invitational and their third place finish at the conference championships. They will be joined by several newcomers to the team including sophomore Caitlin Doherty, and freshmen Katherine Klinges, Erica Matticola, Rochelle Reynard and Regina Sellman. For the men’s squad, juniors R.J. Every, Dan Geary, Mike Pflueger, Jason Robustelli and sophomores Brian Eichler, Ralph Ricciardi, Kevin Stackhouse, and John Watts lead the way. They will be joined by junior Nick Pane and freshman Brendan Sharp, Matthew VandenHengel, and Mark Ziegler. Our large returning class will lead a young men’s team that looks to continue their success at the GMC Invitational and improve upon their third place finish at the conference championships. With a record number of team members this year, both the Gwynedd-Mercy Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country Teams have the speed, experience and depth to compete for the newly renamed Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship and a top 20 finish at the NCAA Regional Championships. |
